TOUR THE SEAQUELL

England to Balearic Islands-July 25, 1997

StKatherineDock

Position: England to Balearic Islands

We are back on the boat and back on the web page!

The crew sailed from Portsmouth, England to Gibraltar and then on to Palma in the Balearic Islands. June and John returned to SeaQuell on July 16 along with Bobbie Mitchell who will be with us until August 7. On July 17 we were joined by guests, Butch and Alice Pfaelzer's from Chicago and Carden Beach of St. Croix for a week of cruising the Balaeric islands of Mallorca and Menorca. The islands are very popular for tourists and have heavily populated
beaches. We found our own space with quiet and protected anchorages and good clear swimming water. Weather has been warm and sunny with an afternoon breeze for sailing.

Palma was a great resort area with a harbor that was overflowing with vacation cruising boats from all parts of the world. Many old world sites of antiquity. The real enjoyment of cruising is the remote coves and beaches that most vacationers can not reach in the unpopulated regions.

Alice and Butch quickly adapted to the life of the sea and our schedule of meals, sailing and shore excursions at a new port each day. The sail to Barcelona was 12 hours with good weather and kind seas making it an enjoyable trip for all. The Pfaelzer's returned to Chicago from Barcelona on July 26th. We have enjoyed the old world of Barcelona, its new growth that the 1992 Olympics added to the city, its numerous restaurants that seem to stay awake all night and the
friendly people. We will depart for southern France on July 27.
