Greek Islands, Greece -September 16, 1997
Position: Greek Islands, Greece -September 16, 1997 We returned to SeaQuell on Sept. 12 directly from Mpls. Our daughter Teri and son-in-law Rich Hooper arrived late in the evening getting to the boat at 1 AM on Sept. 13th. On Sept. 13 it was found that the Czech Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra was giving their last concert of the season at the Odeion of Herodes Atticus theater at the Acropolis. Our sailing schedule was delayed a day so we could go to this performance. It was a great evening of music. A night to remember! Our Greek island sailing venture started on Sept. 14 with Teri and Rich, stopping at the island of Poros and then on to Hydra on Sept. 15. No cars or motorbikes are allowed on the island of Hydra so our taxi back to the boat was a 45 min. ride on donkeys. Hydra is called the St. Tropez of the Greek Islands. The start of our Greek Island trip is highlighted by several events: 1) SeaQuell had its one year anniversary on Sept. 16 2) SeaQuell passed 10,000 nautical miles since leaving St. Croix on May 11, 1997 3) SeaQuell has traveled 16,000 since Sept. 16, 1996 Tonight, Sept. 16, we are at anchor in the port of Aegina. This island is known for their pistachio growing. On Sept. 17 we will sail back to Athens to meet our daughter Tamie and her husband Bob Campbell. On Sept. 18 we tour the Acropolis and sites of Athens and then travel down island for more excitement, ancient history and enjoyment. Many have not been able to get a fax through to the boat. We have found they have changed satellites for our communication and are now using the one in the Indian Ocean which makes our Fax # 011 873 175 6773. We will not be receiving mail messages on our Web page until Sept. 29. We are glad to be back on the boat and have our two daughters and their spouses be with us to enjoy our travels. |
