TOUR THE SEAQUELL

Martinique -March 30, 2002

Martinique

Position: Martinique -March 30, 2002

We have just dropped the anchor in Martinique harbor. This is a French owned island and is our first visit to a French island in the Caribbean during the many years we have lived here. We will tell you more about it after time ashore. As I titled this, it is still part of "going home". I feel that our final leg from South Africa is the last leg of our round the world voyage and this is just another stop enroute. We had Tamie and the boys join us in Trinidad for 5 days and had fun visiting Grenada, Tobago, and Trinidad, Jack became proficient in free diving to 15' bringing special findings to the surface. Reed became comfortable with the snorkel mast and tube and took off on his own. It was great to be back together again with the family. We will look forward to having the Kirkmans on board next.

Before going to Trinidad, the Hoopers joined us in St . Croix. With Dan's help, we made many trips to Buck Island including the snorkel trail. Keegan and Kaitlyn both did a lot of snorkeling. Keegan went off the dock with me all the way to the point without a life jacket. Good job Keegan, the way to go! We are getting to the age in life that our grandkids will be taking us out to snorkel and looking after us.

Our "going home" has included Windward Island cruising. After Grenada we continued north stopping in the Grenadines. This is group of small islands with many sand beaches and reefs and many boats all sizes. The Club Med 400 passenger sailing boat was a beautiful sight. Our guests were Ken and Marie Bezdicek's from Mpls., who many of you know. We enjoyed touring the islands, many great dinners, kayaking, and playing Spite and Malice every night. Our sailing took us from Trinidad with stops on Grenada, St. Vincent and St. Lucia. We all had a good time and they went home very red from the sun.

Today we sailed to Martinique. We passed the famed Diamond Rock which has a historic past for the British Navy during the sailing days and the war with France. Todd, Jeromy and I learned about it after reading the British Navy warship books when they had control of the sea. We took a couple of photos which we will include if I remember how.

More later.
