Port of Bonifacio, Corsica, France -August 24, 1997
Position: Port of Bonifacio, Corsica, France -August 24, 1997 The Shadingers and Jacobs would like to greet their families and friends while they are enjoying life at sea aboard SeaQuell. We have cruised leisurely around Corsica, enjoying the grand weather, clear warm water and have found some isolated sandy beaches. During our stop in Ajaccio there was a major fire in the hills which required the use of airplanes for fighting the fire. Not far from our boat anchorage we watched 3 planes pick up water out of the sea and dump the water on the fire. The water was picked up while in flight at low level (on the water) without stopping, then out over the fire and back for more water. What critical flying that required. Fun to watch. At our stop at Bonifacio, on the south shore of Corsica we found the most unusual rock formations. Shear vertical walls, a thousand feet tall, surround the 1/2 mile wide deep-water harbor. The walls are white multicolored limestone that has been carved by the wind into the most unusual beautiful shapes stretching for 10-15 miles along the shoreline. It was truly one of nature's majestic works of art to be remembered. After an enjoyable week, our guests departed on Sunday August 24 to return to Mpls and we continued on our cruise to Sardinia, Italy. (Back to Ship's Log) |
