TOUR THE SEAQUELL

Port of Call Bergen, Norway- June 11, 1997

Position: Port of Call Bergen, Norway Position 60'24" N 5'23" E- June 11, 1997

From Dover we traveled along the White Cliffs of Dover for two hours. We had never seen this renowned beauty and unusual sea shore it was gorgeous with the morning sun shining on the cliff. Departing for Bergen, Norway through the English Channel into the North Sea we expected the usual rough seas however the North Sea was without wind and flat sea through which we motored for two days avoiding the oil rigs. We arrived in Norway near Stavanger and cruise several fjords on way to Bergen. Some of the smaller Fjords reached 20 miles inland were only 1,000' wide with the water 2,000 deep and the sides reaching over 5,000'. Being spring time there were many waterfalls from the snow melt on top. A beautiful exciting experience.

Bergen is a beautiful city at the foot of the mountains. It has a large natural busy harbor that is the center of the western shore commerce. It is in the center of all fjords along the western coast of Norway. Many boat and rail tours start from BergenGermans used the natural deep harbor for their warships. They built a submarine maintenance pen with huge steel doors that still remain as a reminder of their use of Bergen harbor during WWII.
